Fracture Toughness and Impact Strength of High-Volume Class-F Fly Ash Concrete Reinforced with Natural San Fibres from Leonardo El J Pract Technol

چکیده
Results of experimental investigation carried out to study the effects of addition of natural san fibres on the fracture toughness and impact strength of high-volume fly ash concrete are presented in this paper. San fibres belong to the category of ‘Natural Bast Fibres’, also known as ‘Sunn Hemp’. Its scientific (botanical) name is Crotalaria Juncea. It is mostly grown in the Indian Sub-Continent, Brazil, Eastern and Southern Africa, and in some parts of the U.S.A. Initially, a control mixture without fly ash was designed. Then, cement was replaced with three percentages (30, 40 and 50%) of low-calcium (Class F) fly ash. Three percentages of san fibres (0.30, 0.60 and 0.90%), having 25 mm length, were used. Tests were performed for compressive strength, fracture toughness, and impact strength at the ages of 28 and 91 days. The test results indicated that the replacement of cement with fly ash decreased the compressive strength and fracture toughness, and had no significant effect on the impact strength of plain (control) concrete. Addition of san fibres did not affect significantly the compressive strength, increased the fracture toughness and impact strength of high-volume fly ash concrete as the percentage of fibres increased. 25 http://lejpt.academicdirect.org Fracture Toughness and Impact Strength of High-Volume Class-F Fly Ash Concrete Reinforced with Natural San Fibres Rafat SIDDIQUE

Influence of Fibers and Fly Ash on Mechanical Properties of Concrete
The Present study was carried out to evaluate the influence of addition of Fibres and Class ‘C’ Flyash on the mechanical properties of concrete. Fibre Reinforced Concrete (FRC) is very useful in extreme climate where shrinkage of concrete causes cracks. The Fibre Reinforced Flyash concrete (FRFAC) has been successfully used to minimize cavitations / damages in hydraulics structures. The FRC wit...

An investigation into the mixed mode fracture of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC)beams with one percent volume fraction of steel fiber is presented. A series of notched beams withdifferent notch depths and locations are tested under three-point bending. The test results for apparentfracture toughness, crack trajectories, and fracture energy are presented. The crack paths for SFRCand plain...

Brittleness, which was the inherent weakness in High Strength Concrete (HSC), can be avoided by reinforcing the concrete with discontinuous fibers. Reinforcing HSC with more than one fiber is advantageous in an overall improvement of the mechanical performance of the composite. In this experimental study, Hybrid Fiber Reinforced High Strength Concrete (HyFR-HSC) mixes were formed by blending si...

This paper aims to clarify the effect of steel fiber on the flexural toughness of the high performance concrete containing fly ash and nano-SiO2. The flexural toughness was evaluated by two methods, which are based on ASTM C1018 and DBV-1998, respectively. By means of three-point bending method, the flexural toughness indices, variation coefficients of bearing capacity, deformation energy, and ...
